The Birth Interview Project was started by Joy Kusek. Joy is a 30-something mother of two water-birthed children. She is married to Peter, an artist in grad school at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, and she has one crazy and fun-loving dog, Nutmeg.
Joy is a DONA trained doula and a Lamaze Certified Childbirth Educator. She was mentored and taught Birthing From Within childbirth education by and with Jean Sala Smith, MSN CNM, and Betty Fairman-Hoffman , MSN CNM. Joy also served as a midwife’s assistant at Inanna Birth and Women’s Care while living in Denton, TX.
Currently Joy volunteers on the membership committee of Lamaze International and stays active teaching private childbirth courses and working part-time as a doula. Joy blogs regularly at thejoyofthis.com and maintains a Facebook page for her blog.
